Seven Wonders of the World in Google Earth

A year ago I wrote about a tour of several versions of "Seven Wonders of the World". There is an effort to define a New Seven Wonders where millions of Internet users are voting on the choices - the final selection will be announced on July 7, 2007 (07-07-07). :-) Several of the sites now have new satellite photos. Here's more details on the tour:

Based on a data from the WikiPedia, the Seven Wonders of the World is a collection of placemarks for Google Earth which was posted by one of the GE team members. The placemarks include some details, and a link, from the Wikipedia articles which give some background on the various versions of Seven Wonders of the World as they have evolved over time. Google Earth is certainly one of the fastest, if not best, ways to view the Seven Wonders. Select "The Seven Wonders" placemark folder and choose "Tools->Play Tour" to get a flying tour of all the sites. Included in the collection are the Seven Wonders of:

  • the Ancient World
  • the Medieval World
  • the Natural World
  • the Underwater World
  • and the New Seven Wonders - (voted on by people around the world)

Here's the main Wikipedia article, and here's the post at the Google Earth Community by 'ink_polaroid'.

You can find a very nice webquest about the seven wonders of the world on: http://www.webkwestie.nl/7wereldwonderen/. This one is in Dutch. But it's a combination of webquests, Google Earth, Google Maps, YouYube and a wiki (specially for kids: http://www.wikikids.nl). Very neat.

I have been laying on my lawn for the last three weeks straight without moving. I hope that google satellites will take pictures of me and everyone will vote it to be one of the seven wonders of the world

The "new seven wonders" KML folder at that download link not very accurate. The official list has 21 candidates now, and there's a votation organised by Unesco on new7wonders.com that will be resolved on July next year, to be precise on 07/07/07 for some numerological reason, I guess. The good list of candidates to be new 7 wonders in Tagzania at http://www.tagzania.com/user/blogwatcher/new+7wonders

Funny how this KML keeps on hanging Google Earth. Anyone here have the same problem? I can't seem to be able to check out all the medieval wonders without an application freeze. Annoying... :-(

I've made a WebQuest about the election of 7 new world wonders. There is a world wide election going on that will end on 07.07.07.

In this WebQuest for grade 8 to ... are google-earth links to all nominated structures and some 3D-buildings, like:
    - Eiffel Tower
    - Tai Mahal
    - Acropolis
    - Colosseum
    - Piramids of Gizeh
    - Syndey Opera House
    - Statue of Liberty
    - A Google-Earth-Tour at the Great Chinese Wall near Beijing.
    - From almost every world-wonder their is a panorama picture and/or a videomovie

I'm searching for more 3D-structures of the nominated buildings. Do you know more? Let me know.
