Project Thin Ice - Expedition to North Pole in Google Earth
An interesting Google Earth network link for tracking an expedition has been posted for Project Thin Ice, by Greenpeace. The project is drawing attention to the danger to polar bears due to the melting of artic ice. The web site includes a blog, videos, photos, maps, and now a Google Earth file 
for tracking the expedition. The GE file was done by Tim Harincar who also does Sailblogs.com I wrote about earlier. There is an image overlay of the estimated ice concentration added over the satellite photos of the area. I like the way the placemark descriptions provide a brief snippet of a blog entry with a link to the actual blog entry at the web site. Also, I like the way he has used the colored bubble descriptions to add the "green" for Greenpeace. (Read here for a story on how to make colored bubbles). Great work Tim!

HOLa! Me istale el GE hace una semana, encontre una formacion rocosa en Norteamerica que parece un hombre mirando de perfil...lo interesante esta unos kolometros mas arriba en donde aparece una colosal "laguna" o "agujero" NEGRO!!!
Es un agujero negro o solo una maravilla natural?
RESPUESTA: Buscá en el panel "Uso de Capas", Galería y activá la capa "Google Earth COmmunity". Aparecerán "i" con datos agregados por usuarios. Quizás encuentres lo que buscás..

Hola, hoy me paso algo que espero sea un error de Google Earth, se me ocurrio ver el Polo Norte y me encontre con que no hay Polo Norte, la capa de hielo no existe, en donde esta! o que ya se derrite en alguna epoca del año?

RESPUESTA: Como verás, GE sólo tiene (por el momento) imágenes de las áreas terrestres. No hay imágenes del casquete polar ártico por el momento. Sólo imágenes que dan una idea de su batimetría (relieve), pero sin datos reales de la profundidad.
