Using Google Earth on Linux with Wine

Using the Wine (Windows Emulator) it is now possible to use Google Earth on Linux. Here are instructions on how to do it at the Gentoo Linux Wiki. The instructions do not seem too difficult, but seem to require Gentoo Linux. Reports are that it works well. This came out over the weekend through Digg and several other blogs. I first read it via OgleEarth.

    First.

WINE is not an emulator (Seriously, it runs on the same hardware as Windows. Not much to emulate. That, and that's what those letters stand for.)

    Second.
How would you like it if you were told that the only way you could use a specific, very good and useful piece of software, was to run it using an access layer program which takes up extra cpu cycles, memory, etc. and decreases overall performance of the program you are running?

Not too much I don't doubt.

Get GE on Linux. We have been waiting too long in the first place, and furthermore, haven't had any news. At least give us some kind of report!

This, from the company that revives the Jabber protocol for use in its chat software. Give a little back for crying out loud!

Although the word "soon" could be interpreted in different way, I suppose that it couldn't mean more than half a year? Google asured me in their respond for my email that they SOON will be ready with a linux version of Google Earth. And it was more than half a year. I feel so dissapointed with you, Google...

Google depends on Linux. Google was built on Linux. One can make a fair argument that without Linux, Google would never have come into existence. But when it comes to actually supporting the operating system that they built their server farms upon, and thus has enabled Google to make enormous sums of money, well, forget it.

Why are Google the good guys again?
